Connecting with the Men of our Family System
Amazon recently announced that it will require its employees to return to the office starting in January, citing the argument that employees are more efficient when working in an office environment rather than from home. I can´t help but wonder: has the company considered the insights of systemic consulting?
Family constellations when applied to the workplace and business (somewhat similar to so-called “organizational constellations”, although more far-reaching and thus more effective than these) reveal that working from home weakens our professional effectiveness. On a deep, unconscious level, the home serves as a metaphor for the mother’s womb, and to thrive as autonomous adults, we must venture out into the world. This process is facilitated when we acknowledge and honor our biological father, which will make his strength and support available to us as we serve others.
As Bert Hellinger, the philosopher and therapist who developed family constellations in their new more effective form, along with Brigitte Champetier, have frequently emphasized, our effectiveness is rooted in the men who stand behind us in our family system.
For anyone wishing to enhance their professional effectiveness, regardless of their gender, it is essential to take the time—if they haven’t already—to connect with their biological father and all the men in their family lineage, approaching this connection with humility.
This gaze at the unseen forces that influence our relationships —the systemic gaze— becomes crucial for achieving the success that may seem just out of reach.
I invite you to consider a session, either on-site or online, to facilitate this process or to set in motion the solution through the phenomenological methodology of new family constellations.
